Dr. Herman Brister, Associate Superintendent for Instructional Support Services

Herman BristerDr. Herman Brister has been a prominent member of the East Baton Rouge Parish School System for twenty-five years, working directly with Baton Rouge youth both academically and athletically. He began his education career with the system as a resource teacher at Magnolia Woods Elementary.

Since then, he has served in multiple capacities: as the Athletic Director for Istrouma High School, Assistant Principal of Crestworth Middle, Principal of Staring Education Center, Principal of Capitol Middle School and Assistant Superintendent for Middle Schools. Dr. Brister's dedication to children is evident in his service as the system's Associate Superintendent of Instructional Support Services.

In this capacity, Dr. Brister leads the school system's instructional support services program by planning, developing, and evaluating the district's needs for issues of quality and equity. In addition, Dr. Brister provides leadership and guidance for the system's Autonomous and Charter Schools, Adult Education programs, I CARE Substance Abuse Prevention Program, Guidance Counselors, Student Activities, Child Welfare and Attendance, JROTC, Special Programs, Transfers and Security and Education Excellence Funds.

"Having the opportunity to develop new teachers and principals in content pedagogy, classroom and site management has been very fulfilling," said Brister. "My experiences have afforded me the opportunity to teach, coach, manage, and supervise individuals from diverse backgrounds."

Dr. Brister received his B.S. in Secondary Education from Southern University, an M. Ed. in Special Education from Louisiana State University and received his doctorate in Organizational/Educational Leadership from Nova Southeastern in Fort Lauderdale, Florida in July 2007.
